DigitalOcean is one of the top cloud platforms that make deploying, managing, and scaling applications of any size easy. Here in this tutorial, we will help you create your own VPS(droplet) in the Digital Ocean.
If you don’t have an account yet, Sign up using this link to get $50 credit in your account.
Step 1: Log on to www.digitalocean.com/login . Fill the credentials to Sign In to your account.
Step 2: Now you are redirected to the account dashboard of Digital Ocean. Click on ‘Create’ at the top right corner.
Step 3: Click on the ‘Droplets’ option in the drop-down menu.
Step 4: You will be directed to the setup page. You can choose the OS you want in your VPS from here. If you want to install software bundles along with the OS, go to the marketplace tab.
After choosing the OS, scroll below to choose the plan, data center locations, and other configurations as shown in the below images.
You will encounter the User data text box. You can leave it blank.
Step 5: Choose the authentication method. SSH keys are more secure. Click to learn how to setup SSH keys to connect remotely from your device. As I have already created the SSH key I will select one and proceed.
Step 6: Wow!! Now you are at the final step. Choose a unique hostname of your choice or you can also leave it default. Check Enable backups option for system-level backup every month. But it will charge you extra costs.
Hurray!! You have successfully set up your fresh VPS. You can connect to it using the terminal or special software for Windows called Putty. Download Putty from here for free.
